Ellen Gates was introduced to the field of pedorthics younger than most. As a child, Ellen began wearing orthopedic shoes to correct pigeon-toes, but tossed them upon entrance to high school. When she began suffering from debilitating plantar fasciitis pain at the age of 28, Ellen again tried orthopedic shoes as a last resort and found immediate relief. As a walking testimony, Ellen soon began her journey to become an expert pedorthist seeking to educate and help others reduce chronic foot pain. Ellen received her Bachelor of Science in Food and Nutrition from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, in 1981 and completed her formal pedorthic training at Eneslow Pedorthic Institute, in New York, New York in 2000. Ellen has been an American Board Certified Pedorthist and Illinois Licensed Pedorthist for over 15 years and with her extensive clinical experience and warm personality, P&O Care welcomed Ellen in 2015.  Ellen’s clinical interests include diabetic neuropathy, leg length discrepancies and fracture management. Ellen is passionate about foot education and teaches patients how shoes and orthotics work synergistically to create a healthy support system for the whole body, preventing health complications and pain.  When Ellen is not helping patients walk comfortably, she enjoys photography, gardening and crafting.
